Up until very recently, I thought leather pants were something only Hollywood starlets could get away with. Also, for some odd reason, they always looked better in magazines than they did on actual people. I couldn’t have been more wrong! To my pleasant surprise, long gone are the days when leather pants were only seen in those cheesy 80s rock videos, and I for one could not be happier.
Thanks in part to design powerhouses like Helmut Lang, Marc Jacobs, and Versace, leather trousers have been featured over and over again in top runway shows, fashion collections, and retail shops. Although not exactly known for their versatility, these types of trousers can actually be worn with different outfits and can fit varying styles to please just about anyone.
For those of you who do not yet own a pair and feel hesitant at the mere thought, maybe we can help. We decided to feature some chic, jaw-dropping outfits from some of our favorite fashion bloggers to help show the different ways these bad boys can be worn. Who knows? They may just tip the scales and help you along in picking up your very first pair.

Girly Chic Look
The feminine and chic outfit is likely to be the most marketable look (at least in my mind). First off, the pair of fire-red leather trousers below is definitely worthy of some attention. Cindy (COTTDS) matched it with a pair of leopard-print booties and a sleeveless top. Some great alternative pieces to go with the trousers are high-heel stilettos and a form-fitting halter top.

Theyskens’ Theory Kary Tank, $129.00; J Brand Carin Leather Trousers, $388.50; Rosegold Dylan Cheetah Booties, $260.00
Smart Casual Look
For the more reserved, combining these statement trousers with clean, sophisticated pieces is a great way to achieve that highly coveted smart casual look. In this photo, Bridg (pho & chips) combines her leather with a light brown overcoat, a crew-neck top, leopard-print booties, and a small leather purse. Opting to go with a blazer and a button-down shirt would work equally well in targeting a smoothed-out casual look.

Bottega Veneta Cashmere Coat, $4,350.00; Rag & Bone Ferrell Leggings, $895.00; Juicy Couture Astor Wedge Booties, $175.00
Sport-Luxe Look
In the past year, we’ve witnessed an explosion with this sport-luxe-inspired look. As an example, Jules (sincerely, jules) put together a fantastic ensemble by pairing a couple of sporty pieces — a snapback cap and high-top sneakers — with her fitted leather trousers, a blazer, a tee, a bag, and sunglasses. Other stylish pieces to match with the trousers would be a quilted puffer vest, a toque, and low-cut sneakers.

Dissizit! The XLA New Era Cap, $42.00; Elizabeth and James Heather Blazer, $395.00; J Brand Leather Skinnies, $895.00; Koolaburra Preston Sneakers, $175.00
Androgynous Look
The past year has also seen the growth of the famed androgynous look. With this new trend, the attention has shifted from the popular form-fitting silhouettes to baggy, loose-fitting garments. We’ve seen this with the boyfriend jeans and with the fall-favorite oversized sweater trend. In this look, Jayne Min (Stop It Right Now) put together an amazing ensemble worthy of a second, a third, and even a fourth look. To combine with her baggy trousers, she chose to go with an oversized printed jacket, a long-sleeve crew-neck sweater, and a pair of fresh white sneakers. I absolutely love this look!!

*LA Boutique The Rye Jacket, $28.95; The Row Otford Sweater, $1,150.00; Vince Leather Jogging Pants, $1,150.00; Superga for The Row Low-Top Sneakers, $190.00
